inclined elevator
An elevator that follows a path departing from a straight vertical line, whether diagonal or curved.
An inclined elevator is an elevator which travels along a path that deviates from a straight vertical line. It may be a straight diagonal, or it can follow a curve.
The deviation belongs to the elevator's route. A straight diagonal path and a curved path are both included, rather than requiring a constant angle throughout the journey.
An elevator traveling on a straight vertical route lacks this path feature. The inclined arrangement describes direction of travel, while passenger or freight designation describes the elevator's use; the two kinds of characteristic concern different aspects of the equipment.
