A Jewish affiliation is applied to a place (other than a synagogue) that has a direct connection with, or belongs to, the Jewish faith or any of its branches.

The direct connection concerns the Jewish faith or one of its branches. A place can have that connection while serving a function other than congregational worship.

A synagogue already identifies Jewish worship through its use. This affiliation describes other places whose religious connection is separate from their primary function.
