migration

A value carried over by a data migration, whose original source was not preserved in the move.

A migration source marks a value that arrived through a bulk move between systems or schemas. The value is genuine; what did not survive the move is the record of where it first came from.

It is the honest answer when the provenance is unknown. Naming the migration is better than guessing at an original source or leaving the field blank.

A later edit should replace it. Once a value is confirmed against a real document or measurement, the source becomes that document, and the migration marker disappears with it.
