ceramic tile

A floor surface assembled from clay tiles, including terracotta, porcelain, and quarry tile, glazed or unglazed.

A ceramic tile floor is paved with any type of clay tiles, including terracotta, porcelain, or quarry tile. It is normally cemented to the floor with grouting material between the tiles. It may be glazed or unglazed.

The tile material is clay, while terracotta, porcelain, and quarry tile are included varieties. A glaze is optional.

The separate units distinguish the floor from a continuous clay floor. Cement bedding and grout commonly accompany the installation but do not replace the tile as the surface material.
