An overflow storage area is a place for storing or stowing away any miscellaneous furniture, papers, books, toys, clothing, and other items in order to save space in living or working areas.
The purpose is to free space in areas used for living or work. Items can remain worth keeping even when they are seldom needed or inconvenient to keep close at hand.
The contents can be mixed personal or workplace possessions. More specific storage uses identify spaces devoted to documents or equipment alone.
