concrete masonry unit
A load-bearing frame composed of small blocks of concrete joined by mortar.
A concrete masonry unit (or "CMU") frame is a load-bearing supporting structure for a building or other built object, which is composed of many individual blocks of precast concrete stacked together and joined with mortar.
The precast concrete units are individual masonry blocks assembled with mortar. Their load-bearing role distinguishes the frame from concrete-block infill in another structural system.
The blocks are concrete rather than fired clay or natural stone. A frame of large prefabricated concrete structural members has a different construction form.
