Danish place UUID
The identifier of a place in the Danish place-name register kept by the national data authority.
The place-name register is kept by the Danish data authority, which publishes it alongside the country's address and administrative data. The identifier is the register's own key rather than a number assigned by a municipality.
The register covers places of every kind, not only settlements: sports grounds, campsites, islands, water bodies and boundary stones all carry one. A match therefore says nothing about whether the object is a town, and the place type has to be read separately.
A 36-character identifier in the usual form of eight, four, four, four and twelve characters separated by hyphens. Aabenraa is 12337669-b095-6b98-e053-d480220a5a3f. The letters are stored in lower case.
The identifier says nothing about where a place is or what kind it is. Both have to be read from the register's own fields, which is the trade for a key that never has to change when a place is reclassified or renamed.
