A local courthouse is a general court of law under the jurisdiction of a municipality, township, or other form of local government.

The court has a general local jurisdiction rather than being restricted to one named kind of case. The local government can be a municipality, township, or comparable body.

A court's physical location within a town does not alone establish local jurisdiction. The governmental level responsible for the court supplies that distinction.
