longeing

A longeing facility is a place where horses train for equestrian events such as vaulting by performing tasks and following commands along a circular path, while a trainer in the center holds a line tied to the horse. Longeing may take place in an open field or in an enclosed ring-shaped pen.

The trainer remains at the center and controls a line connected to the horse as it follows a circular path. That training arrangement distinguishes longeing from general riding around a course.

An open field and an enclosed ring-shaped pen are both possible settings. A fully enclosed building is not required.
