bowed roof

A roof formed by arches, vaults, or other convex surfaces curved in one direction, excluding domes.

A bowed roof is a roof with an arch, vault, or composite shape formed by any number of convex planes which are curved in one direction. Domes are listed as a separate form of roof.

One curved surface or a combination of such surfaces can establish the bowed form. The curvature is convex and runs in one direction.

A dome curves on all sides toward an approximate peak and is classified separately. The curved surface alone is not enough to make every dome a bowed roof.
