Colombian DIVIPOLA code
The code identifying a Colombian department or municipality in DIVIPOLA, the register of the political and administrative division kept by DANE.
DANE, the national statistics department, maintains DIVIPOLA as the official coding of Colombia's political and administrative division. It covers Colombia's 32 departments and the Capital District, with codes for municipalities and other territorial units.
The length states the tier. A department has two digits, Amazonas 91. A municipality has five, the department followed by three: Abejorral is 05002 in Antioquia 05. The leading zero is part of the code.
Not every five-digit code is a municipality. DIVIPOLA also numbers areas that were never municipalized, such as El Encanto 91263 and La Chorrera 91405 in Amazonas, which are legally a different kind of unit and are marked as such in the register.
