damaged by sandstorm

Windblown sand scratches or impairs a structure or its operational parts enough to cause measurable financial loss.

A structure is damaged by a sandstorm when the blowing particles of sand inflict damage on it sufficient to be measured as financial losses. The damage may consist of scratched windows or facades, or sand may become nested in sensitive or operational parts thereby impairing their function.

Damage can affect exposed surfaces or parts whose operation is impaired by lodged sand. Visible scratching is therefore one qualifying form of loss, not a required feature of every case.

The mechanism is damage inflicted by the sand particles. A wind event without sand-related damage is assessed under the separate wind definitions.
