raised floors
A floor raised above the structural floor plate to create space for cables, wiring, and utility pipes.
Raised floors are an amenity in which a floor structure is raised a few centimeters above the structural floorplate in order to create space for cables, wiring, and pipes for electronics and utility systems. The underfloor space allows service routes and outlet locations to be arranged within the floor system, reducing the need to run cables across the occupied surface.
These are commonly used in commercial offices, trading centers, broadcast studios, and data centers.
The raised floor creates a service space below the usable surface. That separation distinguishes it from a floor covering laid directly on the structural plate; the underfloor routes serve cables or pipes rather than creating another normally occupied story.
