visitors per year

The total visits to a place in a calendar year, excluding employees, residents, and people regularly staying with them.

The number of visitors per year is the total quantity of visits by human beings who come to the particular place as persons coming to an attraction. It does not include persons employed by that place, who live there, or who stay regularly with persons living or working there. A single person may register multiple visits to a place within a year, but usually only one visit per day will count toward this statistic.

Visits include customer visits for shopping, entertainment, hotel lodging, medical care, services, and other usages where the individual persons are not generally tied to that particular place (although they may be committed customers or members). Also included are members of the public who enter a place free of charge, or (when the place is a transportation conduit) in transit.

The statistic counts visits rather than distinct individuals: one person can contribute visits on different days. It is separate from the number of people simultaneously present or the maximum number a place can accommodate.
