fiber cultivation

Areas for growing and harvesting fibrous plants used for clothing and non-edible materials.

Fiber cultivation is the controlled growth of plants other than trees whose fibers are made into useful non-edible materials. These include plants such as cotton, hemp, and bamboo.

The plants are cultivated for useful fibers rather than for edible crops. Cotton, hemp, and bamboo illustrate the included non-tree plants.

Trees grown for wood belong to silviculture rather than this fiber-crop use. A processing plant making cloth or other fiber products is also distinct from the land where the crop is grown.
