edition

A version of a boundary set, kept so that data measured against an earlier version stays interpretable.

An edition marks a version of a set of boundaries rather than a place. Statistical agencies redraw units between censuses, and a figure measured against one drawing does not apply to another.

Keeping the edition lets a value stay attached to the geography it was actually measured on, instead of being silently reattributed to a boundary that did not exist yet.

It is an administrative record inside SKYDB and not a unit anyone governs or lives in.
