nocturnal animal exhibit
A zoo enclosure, habitat, or housing facility for animals more active in darkness than in daylight.
A nocturnal animal exhibit is a zoo enclosure, habitat, or housing facility for nocturnal animals, including bats, owls, rodents, and other creatures which are more active in darkness than in daylight. The viewing areas in a nocturnal house tend to be darkened, and the exhibits lit either very dimly or with a colored light that does not disturb the animals. These exhibits are almost always indoors, and generally house small animals.
Activity in darkness is the organizing characteristic. The exhibit can include animals from different groups, such as bats and owls.
Darkened indoor displays of small animals are usual arrangements, not mandatory limits. The category depends on the animals' nocturnal activity.
