The number of balconies in an object is the total quantity of overhanging platforms holding outdoor floor space connected by doorways to indoor space, at the second level of a structure or higher.
Platforms which rest on a setback or a roof are considered terraces or roofdecks. Likewise, platforms at ground level are patios rather than balconies, and a platform connected to the ground by stairs is a porch. None of these are counted as balconies.
The quantity concerns distinct outdoor platforms with doorway access from inside. Multiple doors onto one continuous balcony do not create additional platforms, and the balcony's area is separate from the count.
