pension
A small, home-like lodging establishment, commonly run by a family on its domestic property.
A pension is a small and intimate lodging facility, usually owned and run by a family in their own house, farm, or domestic property. It functions similarly to a hotel, but may offer a more personal level of service. In North America these are often called bed-and-breakfast establishments, and include a morning meal in the price.
The lodging is small in scale and has a domestic setting. Family ownership and operation are usual without being required in every case.
The bed-and-breakfast form commonly includes breakfast in the charge. The wider pension definition does not require every establishment to use that name or offer the same meal arrangement.
