A nursing school is a classroom space for higher education where students train to become nurses or instructors of nursing. Training at a nursing school includes both theoretical studies in health science and practical training in patient care.

The course of training includes health-science theory and practical patient-care instruction. It is not limited to either component alone.

Students can prepare to teach nursing as well as to practice it. The educational function distinguishes the school from a ward where care alone is provided.
