epoxy

A poured plastic floor made by reacting epoxide resin with polyamine hardener, excluding epoxy paint and terrazzo.

An epoxy floor is a poured plastic floor whose substance is made by combining epoxide (resin) with polyamine (hardener) in a chemical reaction. It is also a common component of terrazzo floor, and is used in paints; however, neither of those counts as an epoxy floor, although an epoxy floor may include rubber particles or rough grains to improve traction.

Epoxy floors are generally used in places where it is important to wipe up spills, such as laboratories and kitchens.

The epoxy mixture forms the poured floor itself. Added traction particles are compatible with this material, but the presence of epoxy as a binder in terrazzo does not override the express terrazzo exclusion. Likewise, a painted surface does not become an epoxy floor solely because its paint contains epoxy.
