level ground

A pedestrian main entrance reached on a level path throughout the approach from the public right-of-way or property boundary.

An entrance approach is at level ground when one or more pedestrian main entrances to a built object are flush with the ground level or sidewalk outside, requiring no climbing up or down to reach them. Level ground is only applicable when the approach path is level for the full distance from the public right-of-way or the property line; any intervening stairs or ramp require application of the respective other approach type.

The level condition applies to the full approach, not only the immediate threshold. A flush doorway reached by intervening steps or a ramp does not have an entirely level approach.

The starting boundary can be the public right-of-way or a comparable property limit. The route from there to the entrance determines whether ascent or descent is necessary.
