partition zone

Related terms: rowhouse

A section of a building divided internally from other sections by continuous partitions cutting through all levels.

A partition zone is a section of a building which is completely partitioned off from at least one other section by a continuous series of walls which cross through the whole structure. Normally there is no access at all through the partition, but a virtual partition can be created with only emergency access between sections.

The separation extends through the structure rather than dividing only one room or floor. A continuous boundary distinguishes the zone from a local partitioned space.

Ordinary passage between the sections is absent. Emergency-only access can remain without defeating the stated virtual-partition condition.
