heat generation

A central facility generating heat for distribution to other structures, usually through hot water or steam.

A heat generation site is a structure where heat is generated for distribution to other structures. This form of off-site heat generation is common in university and hospital campuses, where a group of buildings use heat, usually conveyed via hot water or steam, generated at a central plant.

The heat is produced in one structure and supplied to others. A boiler that serves only the building housing it does not establish this off-site generation use.

University and hospital campuses are common arrangements, but another group of buildings can use the same shared source. Electrical generation is not required for a heat-generation site.
