campground
An outdoor area physically configured for tents or camping trailers, excluding unmodified natural areas where camping is merely permitted.
A campground is a distinct outdoor area configured so that people can pitch tents or park camping trailers there. These are often located in or near natural areas, and usually provide some forms of amenities to campers such as prepared fireplaces and flat open surfaces. Unmodified natural areas where camping is permitted do not count as campgrounds.
The site has been arranged for camping, such as by preparing surfaces or providing camping amenities. Permission to camp in an otherwise unmodified natural area is insufficient.
Tents and camping trailers are both included. A location near a natural area is common, without being a requirement for the campground use.
