shear wall plus frame

A system in which a strong slab wall acts in concert with strong joints to stabilize the frame.

A shear wall acting in coordination with a frame forms a distinct system, in which resistance to distorting forces is shared by a reinforced vertical wall and the joints of the accompanying framework.

Both the wall and the frame joints contribute to resistance against distortion. The system combines their structural action rather than relying entirely on either component.

A wall merely standing beside a frame does not establish this coordination. The distinction from a shear-wall-only or rigid-frame-only system is the shared resisting action.
