number of terraces

The total quantity of occupiable outdoor spaces or platforms which rest on setbacks of a structure higher than ground level.

The number of terraces in an object is the total quantity of platforms or other outdoor spaces resting on an architectural setback of a building or other structure.

Platforms which overhang unenclosed space are considered balconies rather than terraces. A roofdeck on a roof higher than the highest occupiable floor level of a structure is not considered a terrace. Sheltered platforms in front of a structure's main entrance are considered porches, and platforms at ground level are patios. None of these are counted as terraces.

The supporting architectural setback distinguishes a terrace from a balcony overhanging open space. A terrace count is separate from the area of those platforms and from the number of doors giving access to them.
