renovation role
The part a company played in renovating an existing building, as opposed to its role in the original construction.
A renovation role records what a company did during work on a building that already stood. The architect of a refurbishment and the architect of the original building are usually different firms, and this keeps them apart.
The distinction matters for old buildings. A tower completed in 1931 and reclad in 2015 has two sets of companies behind it, and crediting the modern firm with the original design would be wrong.
Where a company worked on both, it appears twice, once in each role. The two entries are separate facts about separate pieces of work.
