A coworking office space is an area for desk work which is rented out to various individuals or small groups, normally from entirely different organizations. These spaces can sometimes be organized around a common theme - for example a coworking space may be available only to persons in technology fields - or they may be available to any paying users.

The space is shared among separately participating users. They can come from unrelated organizations even when their work belongs to one common field.

A shared room occupied only by staff of one business is not sufficient to establish this rental arrangement. A coworking site can restrict admission by professional theme or admit any paying user.
