fire station
A building or complex used to keep firefighting crews and equipment ready and mobilize them for emergencies.
A fire station is a building or complex used for the mobilization of firefighting equipment and crews. It usually serves as a depot for fire engines, and as a site for on-call professional firefighters. Fire stations are often combined with emergency medical services, in which case ambulances are mobilized alongside fire trucks.
The station provides a base for firefighting operations and commonly houses fire engines. Personnel and equipment are mobilized from the site.
Emergency medical services can share the facility. Ambulances operating alongside fire trucks do not remove the firefighting-station function.
