sector
A major division of a city, used where the country's own term for a large city district is sector.
A sector is a large division of a city in countries that use the term, among them Romania for Bucharest and several Latin American and African cities.
It is a district by function: an official subdivision of one city rather than a unit beside it. What distinguishes it from a plain district is only that the country calls it a sector.
Sectors are usually few and large, often numbered rather than named, and they may themselves be divided further.
