Technological research facilities are places dedicated to professional development and research in the applied sciences (not including medicine). They may be private or public, and can belong to companies, universities, governments, or other institutions.
The inquiry concerns technological development or an application of science. Public ownership, university affiliation, and commercial sponsorship are all compatible with this research purpose.
Medicine is outside this particular definition of technological research. Scientific research includes medical inquiry, while routine manufacture or operation of a developed technology is distinct from research into it.
