cellulose loose fill

Particles or loose pieces of organic plant fiber used as thermal insulation.

Cellulose loose fill is a thermal insulation material made of organic plant fiber (C₆H₁₀O₅)ₙ. It can be blown or packed into spaces in walls or roofs; the appropriate density depends on the product and application. Cellulose insulation is commonly made from recycled paper and treated for fire and pest resistance.

The material is installed as loose plant-derived fiber in wall or roof spaces. Dense packing and open loose filling are different applications of that material.

Recycled paper is a common source. Fire-retardant treatment and moisture conditions affect performance; cellulose is not inherently immune to mold or other effects of wetting.
