Individually-owned housing includes any homes which are generally owner-occupied, although individual units may sometimes be rented or leased by their respective owners. Cooperatives are included in this category even though their ownership is only individual in the sense that discrete shares in the whole building or complex are individually sold.

Individual unit ownership remains relevant when an owner lets the home to another occupant. Rental occupancy alone does not convert a collection of separately owned condominiums into commonly owned rental housing.

Cooperatives are included through individually sold shares in the whole property. That collective ownership differs from holding a separate condominium title to one unit.
