hand scanners at entry

Biometric entrance devices identifying people from stored hand measurements, used for security or attendance records.

Hand scanners at the entrance to a building or other place are biometric devices which store records of various measurements of the hands of persons permitted or expected to enter. They can be used as security screening devices or as employee attendance clocks.

The person entering normally swipes his or her hand through or over the device, which uses sensors to detect various measurements such as palm area, finger length, and contours. There may be an override system, such as a manned security desk, for persons who are not pre-scanned.

Security screening and attendance recording are both included. A staffed override is optional; the hand-measurement comparison establishes the device's identification function.
