Wood chip storage facilities are places for bulk storage of shredded wood where the particles are at least 1/2 centimeter in length (and not pulverized as sawdust). Wood chips may be derived from raw timber or recycled from processed wood; they are commonly used as a mulch or a soft paving material for footpaths.

The particle-length condition is at least half a centimeter. Finer pulverized material belongs to sawdust storage.

The source can be newly harvested timber or previously processed wood recovered for shredding. Mulch and soft footpath surfacing are common uses without limiting the storage to those destinations.
