area

Measurements of bounded two-dimensional space, including cumulative areas across several levels.

Area measurements are quantifications of the two-dimensional space within a given boundary. These include cumulative measurements of stacked space, which may be greater than the area of any one layer within the boundary. Certain fields of this type refer to various delimitations, extensions, and constraints on the amount of mappable space in a property. Area measurements are expressed in squared units of length.

A building's total floor area can include several floors above the same patch of ground. A land-area measurement counts that planetary surface once.

The boundary determines whether a figure describes a whole property or a selected part, such as available interior space. Equal units do not make those different areas interchangeable.
