escalator speed (max)

The highest speed along the diagonal travel path of any escalator within a defined structure or area.

The maximum escalator speed is the highest speed reached by any escalator within a defined structure or area. The speed is taken across the escalator's diagonal path, and is therefore faster than the speed it travels over a horizontal line on the ground.

The value is the speed of the fastest escalator within the defined boundaries. Other escalators in the same building may be slower; the maximum is not their average speed.

If the fastest escalator is removed or replaced, the maximum is determined from the escalators then present within the defined boundaries.
