oil-burning power plant

A facility generating electricity by burning petroleum fuel and converting the released energy.

A petroleum-fueled power plant is a place where electric power is generated by burning petroleum, a natural fossil fuel extracted from underground deposits.

Petroleum supplies the fuel for electricity production. A refinery or oil-storage installation does not become a generating plant simply because it handles the same substance.

The electrical output distinguishes this use from oil-burning equipment that provides heat only. The plant is identified by its fuel and generating function rather than a particular arrangement of buildings.
