judiciary

Governmental court facilities and supporting judicial sites, including confinement before trial and incarceration under sentences.

Judicial spaces are governmental sites occupied by courts and the supporting functions of a judicial system, including holding places for persons on trial and sites where judicial sentences are carried out.

The group extends beyond the rooms in which cases are heard. Holding accused persons and carrying out judicial sentences are also included as supporting parts of the judicial system.

A courthouse, jail, and prison identify different purposes within that system. Their connection with the same case does not make hearing proceedings, temporary detention, and serving a sentence the same use.
