A pet store is a shop or large store where customers can purchase animals as pets. These include stores selling dogs, cats, birds, fish, rabbits, rodents, reptiles, and any other animals which can be kept domestically. It does not apply to farm animal vendors. Pet stores usually also sell food and accessories for pets.

Customers can purchase the animals themselves as domestic pets. The store can also sell the food and equipment needed for them, but those additional wares are not required.

A pet supply store sells products for pets without selling the animals themselves. The pet-store category also excludes vendors whose animals are sold as farm livestock.
