architectural width

The distance from side to side of a structure at its base, as measured when facing the main entrance.

The architectural width of a structure is its maximum horizontal dimension along a line tangential to its perimeter at the primary entrance. When no single primary entrance can be determined, the postal address point is used as the benchmark.

The entrance reference establishes which direction runs from side to side. The widest dimension in some other direction does not automatically supply this architectural width.

Architectural length uses the perpendicular direction at the same entrance reference. Both measurements use the postal address point when no single primary entrance can be determined.
