service station operator

The business which operates or lends its brand to a gas station or any vehicle service outlet.

A service station operator is the individual, group, firm, or company which manages or lends its brand to a gasoline station, car wash, vehicle repair facility, or any kind of vehicle service facility. These are often large oil companies which operate or lend their names to gas stations, but the role can also be applied to franchisees and independent operators. In the latter cases multiple entities can often be assigned as operators to the same service station.

A franchise brand and a local franchisee can both have the operator role for the same station. The relationship can arise from managing the facility or from supplying its operating brand.

The facility can provide vehicle repair or washing without selling gasoline. The service-station role follows the vehicle-service activity and is not restricted to fuel retailers.
