direct digital control
A computerized control system for the heating, cooling, and ventilation components of a structure.
A direct digital control system is a computerized system which allows remote and/or optimized control over a structure's HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) components. It can be used to monitor and minimize energy use, and also to optimize comfort by setting the ideal conditions for periods of use.
The computerized system controls HVAC components remotely or through optimized operation. Energy monitoring and adjustment of conditions during use are possible functions, rather than a requirement that every installation use the same control program.
The controls are distinct from the heating, cooling, or ventilation equipment they operate. A building can have central air conditioning without that fact alone establishing the computerized control system described here.
