awning
A light, retractable, tent-like roof projecting from a structure for decoration or outdoor shelter.
An awning is a retractable, light, tent-like roof extending from the facade or perimeter of a structure, either for decoration or to provide limited shelter to a space outside.
The shelter extends outward from the facade or perimeter and can be retracted. It may have a decorative purpose, so use as protection from the weather is not required in every case.
An entrance canopy is a permanent entrance covering. The retractable, tent-like construction identifies an awning here; a retractable roof instead concerns a major part of the building roof shell.
