maximum floor overhang distance

The maximum distance by which an object extends over unenclosed space beneath it, including floor or roof overhangs.

The overhang distance for any object is the maximum distance by which it shelters or extends over any unenclosed space beneath it. This can refer to objects with overhanging roofs or floors; leaning objects; or objects which typically extend over a space, such as bridges and gantries.

The relevant part projects beyond the enclosure or support below it. The distance concerns that projection, rather than the total width of the floor, roof, or other spanning object.

A leaning form or a bridge can extend over open space without having a conventional projecting floor edge. The definition includes those arrangements as well as overhanging floors and roofs.
