A substance abuse care home is an inpatient facility or halfway house where patients withdrawing or recovering from drug or alcohol abuse or addictions can transition to a healthier and independent life, with medical staff available to guide and to ease recovery.

Clinical or outpatient space for patients being treated for substance abuse should be classified as substance abuse treatment facilities.

The facility combines residence with support during withdrawal or recovery. Medical staff are available, while outpatient-only care belongs to the separate treatment-clinic usage.
