substance abuse treatment
A clinical facility providing professional treatment during withdrawal from, or recovery from, alcohol or drug addiction.
A substance abuse treatment facility is a clinic (usually an outpatient center) where patients suffering from addictions to alcohol or other drugs, or recovering from such addictions, are given professional medical treatment to ease their withdrawal.
In cases of withdrawal from severe or persistent addictions, patients treated at these facilities may follow their care with a stay in a halfway house for substance abuse.
The clinical work supports patients during withdrawal or recovery. Outpatient care is usual, while a residential recovery home provides the separate accommodation and continuing-support function described by its own definition.
