setback block
A section of a building distinguished from the parts below it by a setback in the building perimeter.
A setback block is any section of a building or other structure defined by the setback which distinguishes it geometrically from the parts below. When a building perimeter is set back at more than one level, then multiple modules of this type can be stacked on top of each other. The lowest section, however, would be classified as a podium.
The inset perimeter separates the section from the wider part below it. Successive setbacks can create several vertically stacked sections with this form.
The lowest differentiated base has the podium meaning. The setback block concerns a section above a change in the perimeter.
