neighborhood planning unit
A neighborhood planning unit in Atlanta, used to organize citizen participation in planning.
A neighborhood planning unit is one of the areas Atlanta divides itself into so that residents can comment on planning matters through a recognized body. Each groups several neighborhoods and is identified by a letter.
It is an instrument of participation rather than a tier of government, so it has no council, no budget and no authority over the area it covers.
The units are specific to Atlanta. A comparable body elsewhere carries that city's own name and is not of this type.
